Lee, Amelia M.; And Others – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1988
Randomly assigned 80 boys and girls in grades 3 and 7 to either a football-related or a dance-related group. Performance expectancies obtained prior to engaging in a novel motor task can be affected by the way a task is presented. Boys were more affected than girls by labels of sex appropriateness. Quantitative and qualitative observations were made of the classroom interactions of four teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL; two male and two female) to assess gender-specific behavior. All but one showed remarkable equality in their classroom interactions with the genders. (SLD)

Forty experienced and inexperienced teachers, twenty male and twenty female, were observed in preschool classes to determine (1) what determines differential responses to boys and girls with regard to sex-preferred behaviors, and (2) whether male and female teachers differ in their teaching styles.
