This study was undertaken to lay a more quantitative framework for future research about leisure time and ways people utilize it. The results indicate emotion and involvement are common elements that are related to leisure needs, and that the relationships among the interacting elements change as the frame of reference shifts. To test the stability of role perception, multidimensional scaling analyses were applied to family role constructs (Mother, Father, etc.) based on data from two methods which differed significantly in terms of the types of judgements of stimulus dissimilarity which were required. (Author)
