Examined the nature of possession and ownership in a developmental and cross-cultural context. Of particular importance to all ages and cultural groups were the two dimensions of effectance and control of possessions and positive affect for possessions. (Author)

Children were given an opportunity to share a valuable commodity with an attractive or unattractive peer. Moments later, the peer appeared to fall from a chair. Results indicated older children shared more of their resources; sharing and responses to the emergency were positively correlated with empathic test scores. (Author/RC)

It is concluded that research has failed to confirm the causal role of deindividuation in releasing antisocial behavior. Research strategies are suggested which will help more quickly to verify or disconfirm the existence and causal role of the construct. (Author)
