Moore, Joan; And Others – Social Problems, 1983
Presents findings from research on Chicano gangs in Los Angeles, which indicates that many gang members do not live in the territory they defend as their "turf." Suggests that the ecological premises of research from the old "Chicago school of sociologists" no longer apply to gangs in modern U. S. cities. (Author/GC)

Marrett, Cora Bagley – Social Problems, 1973
Discusses whether the values about place of residence, nature of home, and other housing related issues which are so different among social classes that socioeconomically mixed neighborhoods are viable or not. Review of studies showed that social class does not explain adequately the value differences that prevail in urban America. (Author/RJ)

Bogart, Robert W.; Hutchison, E. R. – Social Problems, 1978
Data extracted from the 1960 and 1970 censuses and from a 1976 community survey indicate that community of residence is a crucial factor in shaping attitudes towards social problems. For this reason, community should be viewed as an independent moral order through which individuals attempt to decode the larger society. (Author/WI)
