Connecting Social Skills to PE Instruction
Vidoni, Carla
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v33 n1 p3-7 2020
This article describes a teaching strategy called the Fair Play Instruction (FPI). The purposes of which are to teach behaviors that can help a class to advance their social skills. The Fair Play Instruction strategy is an effective way to incorporate SHAPE America's standard 4, and to assess students' progress towards the achievement of this standard. An engaging characteristic of FPI is that it involves students' input on what behaviors will be expected in class. The initial stage of this strategy is to identify a broad category of the behaviors that need to be learned. Then students will have a chance to contribute by choosing specific behaviors they think that can be demonstrated during lessons.
