In this article, the author discusses how to improve a child's motor skills through listening by using three simple steps--recording the auditory model, determining when to use the auditory model, and considering where to use the auditory model. She points out the importance of using a demonstration technique that helps learners understand the timing and duration required to master a new skill. Furthermore, she uses auditory modeling to facilitate teaching the butterfly stroke to a team of swimmers learning in the traditional visual modeling method. Thus, adding the rhythmic information through auditory modeling to the traditional visual model helps learners understand the sequences, timing and duration of a sport skill, learn more quickly, and possibly retain what they have learned for longer periods of time.
