Preparing Childhood Teachers for Changing Suburbs: The Power of a Partnership
Ferrara, JoAnne; Siry, Christina
Teacher Education and Practice, v23 n3 p359-369 Sum 2010
In this article we describe a professional development school that was created within a community school to prepare preservice teachers to work with an increasingly diverse student population, which is now common in many suburban school districts. The professional development school involved a 4-year college and a community school. We discuss the various components of the partnership, and we include perspectives from the program participants to provide a glimpse of a professional development school within a community school. Instrumental in the professional development school success was the unique partnership, professional dialogue, and scaffolding experiences and the commitment to quality teacher preparation, which were critical to the mission of both institutions.
