A Classroom Demonstration of Encoding Specificity.
Thieman, Thomas J.
Teaching of Psychology, v11 n2 p101-02 Apr 1984
The encoding specificity principle asserts that a retrieval cue will be effective if, and only if, the to-be-remembered item was specifically encoded with respect to that cue during input. Describes a classroom experiment that provides an opportunity to demonstrate the encoding specificity phenomenon, note its limitations, and discuss its cause and importance. (RM)
