Descy, Don E.
TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v50 n5 p3-4 Oct 2006
What would people do without the Internet? It gives them the world at their fingertips. Almost anything that they want and need can be found in one neat little place. The Internet is a great place for kids also. They can be entertained, chat with friends, and learn about whatever interests them. Unfortunately the Internet also helps people actively find what they are after even if they should not be after it. Sexual predators use the Internet to fulfill their desires. But it is not only the active predators people must guard against; it is also the pitfalls of passively surfing or searching the Internet. Everyone has come upon sites by accident that should definitely be off limits to youngsters. In this article, the author gives some ideas about what to do to help protect children from the scourge of Internet-based predators and pornography. (Contains 3 online resources.)
