Reflections of an American Educator on the Teaching of Language Arts in France
Smith, Robin
Young Children, v61 n4 p94-100 Jul 2006
This article is a glimpse into one primary classroom at a French school. The author, a kindergarten and first-grade teacher from Connecticut, visits a primary classroom for children ages five to eight years in a French village. She shares her reflections, based on observation, research, and interviews, of how a different culture approaches language arts instruction. The author describes her day in the French primary classroom, comparing teaching strategies with those in the United States. She lists lessons learned and strategies she adapts to her own classroom.
