The English-language literature since 1950 was searched to gather published reports of abstracting and indexing rates and costs, and cost figures for the complete preparation of secondary publication. The search located relevant information by 24 abstract journals and 3 citation services, 18 abstracting cost figures, and 41 indexing cost figures.…

The literature review disclosed that paying for library information services is not common. A sound basis for determining the costs of the services or charges for them does not exist. There are indications that large operating centers are becoming concerned with costs and cost-accounting to establish realistic fees. (Editor/JS)
