Describes an academic enhancement program designed to improve academic performance and persistence of students from traditionally underrepresented ethnic backgrounds. Findings indicate that the program proteges perform better than the university-wide average and that dropout rates are reduced. Implications for mentoring programs are discussed. (CH)
