Chang, Theresa S. – Psychology in the Schools, 1976
Pupils from fourth, fifth, and sixth grades (N=198) were studied to determine the relationship between children's self-concept, academic achievement, and teacher's rating of children's self-concept. This paper explores the relationship between self-esteem, measured five times during a span of eight years, and the educational and occupational attainments of a nationwide sample of over 1600 young men. An overall increase in self-esteem was observed between the start of 10th grade (1966) and a point five years after high school (1974).…

Separate simultaneous equations models for the educational process for high and low achievers are estimated with two stage least squares for a sample of the 12th grade Coleman data. The nine observed endogenous variables concern cognitive, non-cognitive, and attitudinal factors. The 48 exogenous variables concern demographic, home, peer, teacher,…

Gage, N. L.; Giaconia, Rose – New York University Education Quarterly, 1981
This paper reports on an emerging technique that yields the kind of knowledge about cause-and-effect connections between teaching practices and student achievement on which teacher education should be based. That knowledge comes from the completion in recent studies of what has been termed the "descriptive-correlational-experimental loop."…

The purpose of this paper is to report on a pilot investigation of the operation of the Bloom and Carroll hypothesis which states that aptitudes are predictive of rate of learning given a situation in which the time allowed for learning is unlimited, and pupil perserverance, ability to understand instruction, and quality of instruction are…
