High School Dropouts: Efficacy of a High School Credential in Completion of a Soft Skills Training Program
Monnette, Courtney
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
Adult students without a high school credential are consistently denied access to programs offered by community colleges and four-year institutions. With a workforce that is in need of employees, employers have identified soft skills that are necessary for success in the workplace. Alabama offers a free program for students that includes these soft skills, but some colleges restrict access based on the attainment of a high school credential. This study used a quantitative, causal-comparative approach to research the efficacy of a high school credential in the completion of the program. Findings suggested that there is no relationship between the high school credential and program completion, but further study could explore the barriers to employment for this group of students.
