The first large-scale, nationwide academic achievement testing program using Stanford Achievement Test (Stanford) for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the United States started in 1969. Zhu, Pei; Somers, Marie-Andree; Wong, Edmond – Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness, 2010
For this project, the authors use data from four IES-sponsored randomized studies to examine some of the key issues identified in May et. al. (2009). DeMauro, Gerald E. – 2001
The consequences of large state testing are often uniformity of expectations for achievement. The largest impact of higher standards, then, are realized by traditionally disenfranchised student populations, particularly the least affluent who are most likely to bear the yoke of low expectation. This paper advances S. Messick's (1981) fundamental…

Gao, Xiaohong; And Others – Applied Measurement in Education, 1994
This study provides empirical evidence about the sampling variability and generalizability (reliability) of a statewide performance assessment for grade six. Results for 600 students at individual and school levels indicate that task-sampling variability was the major source of measurement error. Rater-sampling variability was negligible. (SLD)

Hambleton, Ronald K.; Jones, Russell W. – 1992
The purpose of this study was to improve both statistical and judgmental methods for detecting potentially biased test items in an attempt to examine the agreement between the results obtained with these methods. If greater agreement between methods can be achieved, test items can be more effectively screened using judgmental methods prior to…
