Using Cross-Curricular Ideas to Infuse Paralympic Sport
Tepfer, Amanda T. S.; Lieberman, Lauren J.
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v83 n4 p20-22, 27 Apr 2012
The Paralympic Games are the second largest sport event in the world. They occur two weeks after the Olympic Games in the same geographic location and sport venues. Despite the Paralympic Games' longevity, many Americans do not even know they exist. One way to meaningfully share information about this event with people of all ages is to infuse a Paralympic Games curriculum into an existing general physical education curriculum. Doing so can be exciting, enlightening, and rewarding for everyone involved. This article gives suggestions for constructing a physical education unit with a Paralympic Games theme and discusses ways to integrate various academic curricula in a creative way.
