The Perceptions of the Value of Arkansas' Beginning Administrator Mentoring Program among First-Year Principals
White, Sharesa
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Arkansas State University
This qualitative study examined the perceptions of first-year principals toward Arkansas' Beginning Administrator Mentoring Program. The study sample included seventeen first-year principals from the 2017--2018 school year. Semi-structured interviews were used to draw conclusions and to make recommendations for state agencies, superintendents, and universities wanting to implement or to make improvements to their beginning building-level leader preparation programs. Prior research confirmed the following findings from the study: 1) Mentoring support for novice principals is critical to first-year building-level leadership; 2) Additional learning opportunities are needed for novice principals during their first year as building-level leaders; and 3) Preparation needs do exist for first-year principals upon completion of university-based Educational Leadership Programs of Study.
