Thompson, Linda; Walker, Alexis J. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1984
Examined the association of aid exchange with attachment in student women and their mothers (139 pairs) and these same middle-aged mothers and their mothers (110 pairs). Different results for the two sets of intergenerational relationships are discussed in terms of individual and relationship development. (JAC)

Examined the marriage relationship in relation to the personality of the partners and the context within which the relationship exists. Results indicated that both the amount of love expressed and the amount of marriage problems declined from the first stages of marriage to the last. (Author/RC)

National survey data were utilized to measure differences in self-perception, motivation, and social support through seven stages of the family life cycle. In most cases, stages of family life were significantly associated with psychological and social change in adulthood, regardless of sex. (Author)

Medling, James M.; McCarrey, Michael – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1981
Examined the relation between value system similarity of spouses and marital adjustment. Results indicated that value similarity was only peripherally related to the level of marital adjustment. However, spouse value similarity appeared to have a significant impact upon adjustment in the later years of marriage. (Author)

Investigated possible gender differences in bases of marital satisfaction. Data indicated that marital quality of men and women differ in degree rather than in kind. Developed and tested a causal model for degree of difficulty of the transition to parenthood using data collected from interviewing 54 White married couples whose first child was three to five months old.
