Vincent, Jonathan – Autism: The International Journal of Research and Practice, 2019
More young people with a diagnosis of autism are enrolling and successfully completing higher education courses than ever before and this is set to increase; however, while there is a burgeoning body of literature surrounding the transition into this stage of education, there is a paucity of research that investigates the transition as this…

Flores, Kevin L.; Matkin, Gina S.; Burbach, Mark E.; Quinn, Courtney E.; Harding, Heath – Educational Philosophy and Theory, 2012
Although higher education understands the need to develop critical thinkers, it has not lived up to the task consistently. Students are graduating deficient in these skills, unprepared to think critically once in the workforce. Limited development of cognitive processing skills leads to less effective leaders. Various definitions of critical…

Nilan, Pam – Journal of Youth Studies, 2008
This paper examines a timely topic in international youth studies--the transition to (middle-class) marriage--in a developing country, Indonesia. While early marriage in Indonesia is still common in rural areas and marriage itself remains almost universal, these trends are moving into reverse for urban, tertiary-educated middle-class young people.…

Martinez, Alyce C.; And Others – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1985
Using a seven-month follow-up study of 1983 graduates (N=346) from a large, public university, compared the employment situation of men to women and of 1979 to 1983 graduates. Results indicated women were not employed in their fields, less satisfied, and earned less than men. Alternative career counseling strategies are discussed. (BL)

Dreilinger, Douglas H.; Kurtz, Theodore S. – Journal of Family Counseling, 1976
Based on work with university students and on the psychoanalytic literature on Separation-Individuation it is hypothesized that for certain students the university milieu becomes a surrogate family. Graduation is a trauma-ridden experience akin to expulsion from one's family and is often accompanied by regressive behavior and clinical depression.…

Monk, Abraham; Kaye, Lenard W. – 1981
Attitudes toward aging among 142 full-time students and 216 graduates at three urban campuses of a religious college were assessed. Respondent subgroups included rabbis, educators, cantors, and communal service workers. Social attitudes were measured by the Aging Semantic Differential (Rosencranz and McNevin, 1969). Respondents rated 32 dimensions…

Kaye, Lenard W.; Monk, Abraham – Educational Gerontology, 1987
Examined career preparation, personal expectations and interests, and workplace experiences of Jewish professionals, mostly rabbis, in the area of services to the elderly. Of all age groups, recent graduates (N=216) of a college of religious instruction felt least well prepared to work with the elderly, and advocated training in issues related to…

Ackerman, Philip L. – College Entrance Examination Board, 1998
This report reviews a theoretically inspired empirical investigation of individual differences in knowledge, abilities, and nonability traits as part of an ongoing effort to better understand adult intellectual development and to develop more accurate measures of adult intelligence. Twenty Knowledge Scales were constructed, drawing on…
