This nine page pamphlet describes the development of such federal library legislation as the Library Services Act (1956), the Library Services and Construction Act (1964), the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Medical Library Assistance Act (1964). The effect of this legislation on new forms of intertype library cooperation such as regional library associations, interstate library networks, and area library councils is examined. The feasibility of establishing a national network is evaluated. (NR)
