Edwards, K. Ffoulkes – Audio-Visual Language Journal, 1967
The construction of algorithms to present grammatical rules is advocated on the basis of clarity and ease of memorization. Algorithmic procedure is demonstrated for the introduction of subordinate clauses by conjunctions in German, and the formation of plural nouns in English. (AF)

Michiels, A. – ITL Review of Applied Linguistics, 1975
Binary algorithmic logic may prove useful for teaching grammar, especially in the case of 'closed-system items.' (Text is in French.) Available from Instituut voor Toegepaste Linguistiek, Vesaliusstraat 2, B. 3000 Leuven, Belgium. (TL)

Carpay, J. A. M. – ITL Review of Applied Linguistics, 1974
Developing learning-teaching procedures is only possible if one knows the internal processes to be formed. Two 'psycho-logical' models and activity algorithms for foreign language teaching are discussed. Construction of such operational models for grammatical action has a high diagnostic value for research and development in FL teaching. See FL…

Van Passel, F. J. A. – ITL Review of Applied Linguistics, 1974
Shows the necessity of foreign language education for cognitive and attitudinal purposes as well as for utilitarian reasons. Foreign language learning/teaching can be of great educational value when it follows the thread of the logical and psychological steps in the creative/discovery procedure. A learning algorithm is mapped on page 61. See FL…

Joint Publications Research Service, Washington, DC. – 1963
IN THIS COLLECTION OF THREE ARTICLES, THESE TOPICS ARE COVERED--FOREIGN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION, TEACHING ALGORITHMS, AND LITERATURE ON PROGRAMED TEACHING. IN THE FIRST STUDY, PROGRAMED LANGUAGE EXERCISES WERE GIVEN IN LANGUAGE LABORATORIES TO HIGH LANGUAGE ABILITY STUDENTS TO TEST THEIR SKILL AT INDEPENDENT WORK. ALTHOUGH THE SMALL EXPERIMENTAL AND…

STOIAN, STANCIU – 1964
CYBERNETICS, OR "THE ART OF ENSURING THE EFFICIENCY OF ACTIONS," MUST BE A TOOL SUPPORTING PEDAGOGY, THE EDUCATIONAL PHENOMENON, THAT IS DETERMINED BY COMMUNIST PARTY POLICY. ALTHOUGH ANALOGIES BETWEEN MEN AND MACHINES DERIVE FROM THE CONCEPTS OF A SYSTEM (A CONFIGURATION OF STABLE ELEMENTS), INFORMATION (A PROBABILITY SCIENCE),…

Hanauer, S. L. – Annual Bulletin (Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics), 1970
This report describes the algorithm and materials developed at the Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (University of Tokyo) for use in testing the abilities of Japanese students in the pronunciation and hearing of English monosyllabic words. The report begins with a description of the method employed for selecting the words to be…

Bung, Klaus, Ed. – 1968
The author has compiled these papers in an attempt to show (1) the relevance of programed learning research for language teaching, (2) how better materials for the language laboratory can be developed, and (3) how the language laboratory can be used more efficiently. The first part of this two-part volume contains papers on programed learning in…

Landa, L. N.; And Others – 1976
This book on the aspects of instructional processes focuses on control of student cognitive activity during instruction. Chapter 1 introduces the cybernetic approach to the theory of instruction. It is followed by a chapter on instructional effectiveness and efficiency. The third chapter discusses cognitive processes and thinking. Chapter 4…

Monteverde G., Luisa – Lenguaje y Ciencias, 1971
This paper describes a teaching method, presently in the experimental stage, that advocates the use of a programed instruction model in the language laboratory, with students working in homogeneous groups of three. The author describes the technical construction and operation of the language laboratory which allows three students to work together…
