The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cultural responsiveness of trauma-informed services and curricula used in public schools. Using Kirkhart's (2013) A Culture Checklist, peer-reviewed journal articles were critically analyzed for the nine elements of culturally responsive research design. Twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles were included in the study and classical content analysis was used to identify how often codes were used throughout the data, which then informed which constructs were most referenced. Of the nine elements used to code the research articles, History was coded 41 times, Location was coded four times, Plasticity was coded 59 times, Power was coded zero times, Reflexivity was coded 186 times, Relationship was coded 49 times, Return was coded 319 times, Time was coded 39 times, and Voice was coded 172 times. Results indicate that trauma-informed services and curricula do not consistently exhibit comprehensive elements of cultural responsiveness. Implications and recommendations are discussed.
