A role-reversal technique is described to teach cognitive coping skills to a patient with writing phobia. Desensitization scenes and coping strategies for lessening anxiety were presented by the patient to the therapist, resulting in reduced anxiety and an increased ability to write in the presence of other people. Examines a nine-session behavior modification program to relieve test anxiety in which instruction in muscle relaxation techniques was followed by desensitization to 25 test-related anxiety-producing items.
