Gross, Georgia Himmelwright; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1985
A study involving 144 elementary students in three groups - controls (no articulation errors), residual error (mean of five articulation errors), and multiple errors (mean of more than 15 errors) - supported the hypothesis that Ss in the multiple error group would demonstrate measurable deviations in language compared to those in residual error or…

Yanez, Elizabeth A.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1982
Thirty elementary school children with /s/ or /r/ misarticulations were administered an articulation test for their target phoneme in three conditions. It was assumed that a noise selected to overlap with the frequency range of the target phoneme would be most disruptive to articulation in the final stages of phoneme mastery. (Author)

Schmitt, Lane S.; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1983
Scores on Whole Word Accuracy (WWA), a method for assessing articulation proficiency in conversation, and Arizona Articulation Proficiency Scale (AAPS) scores were computed and correlated for 30 subjects in eight age groups (three-seven years). Shewan, Cynthia M. – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1986
Performance on a dichotic word task was examined with 15 articulatory-impaired children and 15 non-articulatory-impaired children (all between 5 and 9 years old). Results of presenting words under three conditions (free recall, directed right, and directed left) found no significant differences between groups on ear preference. (Author/DB)

Cullinan, Walter L.; Springer, Mark T. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1980
The times needed to initiate and terminate voicing in response to series of short segments of auditory signal were studied for 20 stuttering and 20 nonstuttering children (ages for both groups 5 to 12). The effects of random reward and nonreward on the phonatory response times also were studied. (Author/PHR)

Ripich, Danielle N.; Panagos, Joan M. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1985
Eight dyads of misarticulating school children (mean age = 7:9 years) enrolled in clinical programs were videotaped while they role-played remedial articulation lessons. Hierarchical relationships among the selected levels of analysis suggested the use of a cohesive register appropriate for clinical teaching. Children's sociolinguistic…

Ritterman, Stuart I.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1982
The performance of 91 first grade students was compared using three screening tests of articulation: the Templin-Darley Screening Test of Articulation, the Screening Deep Test of Articulation, and the Predictive Screening Test of Articulation. There was poor correlation between tests in terms of the particular individuals failed. (Author/SEW)

Hall, Barbara J. Crowe – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1991
This study examined attitudes of 348 fourth and sixth graders toward peers with and without mild articulatory errors. Koegel, Robert L.; Koegel, Lynn Kern – 1984
Forty children (grades 2-5) with consistent misarticulations on one to three phonemes participated in a self-monitoring program. Ss were taught to discriminate their own correct vs. incorrect articulations and then self-monitoring of correct responses was transferred to the children's natural environments. Data were collected by trained observers…
