Statistics Attitude Survey (SAS) scores were significantly related to: (1) cognitive variables such as basic mathematics skills, statistics preknowledge, course grades; and (2) noncognitive factors such as sex, desire to take a course, previous math courses, course status, calculator attitudes, and course and instructor evaluations. To investigate the claim that the Statistics Attitude Survey (SAS) contains a number of achievement-related items rather than attitude-related items, the SAS and the Attitudes Toward Statistics (ATS) were administered to 280 introductory statistics students. A 34-item scale entitled Statistics Attitude Survey (SAS) was developed and administered to three samples of students taking a beginning statistics course. Analyses showed that the scale was highly homogeneous and that total scale scores had moderate correlations with statistics grades. (Author)

The survey was administered to high school seniors. Analysis supported 3 of the 4 hypothesized factors: Delay Avoidance (DA), Work Methods (WM), and Teacher Approval (TA). The Educational Acceptance (EA) factor was not supported. Implications for counseling are discussed. (Author/BJG)

A 30-item survey was developed to assess several dimensions of attitudes about calculators. Reliability and validity data were gathered on students in a college statistics course. This research investigates the psychometric properties of a Foreign Language Attitude Scale (FLAS). Stepwise regression indicated that the FLAS made a significant contribution to the prediction of FL grades.
