Nuck, Martha E.; And Others – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1987
To evaluate the theory that central auditory processing deficits exist in the normally disfluent population, 40 adults were administered the Synthetic Sentence Identification-Ipsilateral Competing Message Measure. Results revealed a significant difference between the performance of fluent and disfluent normal speakers but not between ear…

Hasbrouck, Jon M. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1987
The effects of unilateral and bilateral ear occlusion on auditory discrimination in background noise was tested among 36 adults with auditory figure-ground disorders and normal auditory discrimination ability. Results indicated that unilateral occlusion effectively eliminated the figure-ground disorder in most subjects. (Author/DB)

Hasbrouck, Jon M. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1983
Twenty-four adult patients who presented to a number of hospital services with complaints related to difficulty in hearing, understanding, remembering, or writing were examined for auditory perceptual disorders. Results support the desirability of examining auditory perceptual abilities in adults even though the tools available are designed…

Battin, R. Ray; Waryas, Paul A. – Journal of Childhood Communication Disorders, 1985
Profiles of three persons (9-11 years old) with extremely reduced masking level difference results (scores which measure binaural release from masking) are reported. It is suggested that tests of the MLD appear to be a useful adjunct of an evaluation battery for patients with presumed auditory perceptual problems. (CL)

Tobey, Emily A.; Cullen, John K., Jr. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1984
Temporal auditory-integration for short-duration, frequency-varying signals was examined in 14 children (9-17 years old) with deficits in auditory memory and reading. No significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups' thresholds as a function of signal class (i.e., fixed-frequency or tone glide) or duration.…

Lubert, Nancy – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1981
The article reviews the literature on auditory perceptual impairments in children with language disorders. It is suggested that, rather than a higher order cognitive or "linguistic" deficit, the underlying deficit in childhood language disorders is a perceptual one. (Author)

Lieberman, Philip; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1985
Eighteen adults with developmental dyslexia were asked to repeat orally what they heard. Analysis of responses revealed an average vowel error rate of 29 percent and an average consonantal error rate of 22 percent, significantly different from those of nondyslexic control groups. Clinical histories suggested genetic transmission of the speech…

Glass, Rita – Rehabilitation Literature, 1981
The study investigated the prevalence of middle ear effusion (conductive hearing loss) in 32 school aged children found to have auditory learning disabilities. Results indicated a systematic relationship between auditory learning disability and middle ear effusion. (DB)

Rvachew, Susan; Jamieson, Donald G. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1989
Two studies examined the relationship between speech perception and speech production errors in children (N=21 and ages 5 and 7) with articulation disorders. Findings indicated the existence of a subgroup of articulation disordered children for whom production errors reflect perception errors. (Author/DB)

Jirsa, Robert E. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1992
Results of applying the electrophysiological measure of auditory long latency event-related potentials (P3 AERP) on 20 children with central auditory processing disorders before and after a structured treatment program found a significant decrease in P3 latency and a significant increase in P3 amplitude when compared with control subjects who had…

Smoski, Walter J.; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1992
The observed listening performances of 64 children (ages 7-11) with central auditory processing (CAP) disorders were evaluated. Data indicated wide variations in listening performance depending upon the listening conditions and listening functions being rated. Findings suggested that these children had difficulties in both stressful and ideal…

Cooke, Stan S. – 1974
A total of 72 motorically or nonmotorically impaired, learning disabled, elementary grade children were given tasks of auditory synthesis and analysis to determine possible differences. Ss were asked to either separate sounds of a word (analysis) or blend sounds into a word (synthesis). Results indicated that nonmotorically impaired children were…

Cunningham, Susanne A.; Reagan, Cora Lee – 1972
This handbook, written for parents, teachers, and others working with children for the purpose of early recognition of defective visual perceptual functioning, presents a training program designed to improve visual perception and suggestions for implementation of this program.
