Berrick, Janet M.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1984
Staggered Spondaic Word (SSW), test results were studied in 93 normally achieving children and 97 children referred to a learning disabilities clinic. All subjects were 8-11 years of age. The SSW test was found to differentiate between the normally achieving children and those experiencing classroom learning difficulties. (Author/CL)

Gelfand, Stanley A.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1990
Ninetieth percentile cutoffs for acoustic reflex thresholds (ART) were determined for a sample of 1,374 adult subjects with normal hearing and sensorineural loss of cochlear origin. It was found that 12.2 percent had one ear ART elevated above the ninetieth percentile, but only 5.6 percent had more than one elevated ART. (DB)

Upfold, L. J. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1972
Details are presented of a case of acoustic neuroma in which there was a discrepancy between Bekesy sweep-frequency results and those of fixed frequency traces and a tone-decay test. (Author)

Cramer, Kathryn D.; Erber, Norman P. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1974
An auditory test of 10 spondaic words recorded on Language Master cards was presented monaurally, through insert receivers to 58 hearing-impaired young children to evaluate their ability to recognize familiar speech material. (MYS)

Humes, Larry E.; Kirn, Elizabeth U. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1990
The study examined the test-retest reliability in unaided and aided sound-field thresholds and the functional gain values derived from these measurements in 24 hearing-impaired adults. Test-retest standard deviations were slightly larger for functional gain than for unaided thresholds. (Author/DB)

Chaiklin, Joseph B. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1990
A descending version of K. Hattler's Lengthened Off-Time (LOT) Bekesy test was administered to 24 hearing-impaired adults and 30 normal-hearing adults. The Descending LOT test substantially increased screening sensitivity relative to LOT test identifications, because of larger intertrace gaps. (Author/JDD)

Gengel, Roy W.; Watson, Charles S. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1971
Discussed are three problems for clinicians to consider when using temporal integration data for diagnostic purposes with the aurally handicapped. Problems stem from evidence that integration time depends on frequency, that an individual can vary considerably on repeated measurements, and that integration time can differ with different…
