Holland, Terrill R.; Boik, Robert J. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
Ethical choices were assessed for offenders instructed to produce favorable versus unfavorable impressions. Pronounced impression management effects were obtained for prosocial and antisocial responses, and high scores on a dimension of change defined by these variables were related to sociopathic features on the MMPI. Farley, Frank H.; And Others – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1979
Farley's arousal/sensation-seeking model of delinquency was tested in part on a sample of adult male institutionalized addicts. The important implications of the environment for this biological approach to delinquency were discussed, and research directions suggested. (Author)

Gendreau, Paul; And Others – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1979
Changes in self-esteem during incarceration and self-esteem measured shortly after entry to prison and prior to release were predictive of recidivism two years after release. Results confirmed assumptions that assessment and treatment of self-esteem in correctional settings is important because the variable is related to post-prison adjustment.…

Austin, Roy L. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
Hirschi and Hindelang's (1977) causal model in which IQ is linked to delinquency by a set of school-related variables is examined, using Costner's multiple indicator procedure. (Author)

LeClair, Daniel P – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
In an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of the furlough program as a correctional device, an analysis of rates of recidivism for individuals released from Massachusetts' state correctional institutions in the years 1973 and 1974 was conducted. Analysis of the data indicates that the participation in the Home Furlough Program led to a…

Booth, Raydell J.; Howell, Robert J. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1980
Megargee's MMPI federal prisoner classification was used to determine validity with prisoners. Similarities and differences were examined and predictive validity was tested. It was concluded that the Megargee system can be used in grouping state prisoners. (Author/RC)

Katz, Janet – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1982
Examined attitudes of probation officers to determine how these attitudes correlated with decisions to recommend sentences of incarceration or probation for hypothetical defendants described in six case studies. Used Fishbein's theoretical model for the prediction of behavioral intentions to examine this relationship. Implications and suggestions…

Landau, Simha F. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
The aim of this study was to investigate several aspects of daily thinking among delinquents and nondelinquents while adequately controlling institutionalization. Noninstitutionalized subjects demonstrate a higher degree of activity in their daily thinking than their institutionalized counterparts. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Cognitive Processes, Comparative Analysis, Delinquency

Abrams, Allan I.; Siegel, Larry M. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
Effects of the Transcendental Meditation program in a maximum security prison were studied via cross-validation design. Meditation and control groups indicated reduction in anxiety, neuroticism, hostility, and insomnia as a function of the treatment. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Change, Behavior Patterns, Correctional Rehabilitation, Criminals

Friesen, Walter; Andrews, Don – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1982
Assessed anticriminal efforts of probationers from audiotapes of counseling sessions. The assessments proved to be reliable, to correlate with attitude and personality measures, and were predictive of postprogram recidivism. Found the application of specific self-regulation skills more predictive than general plans or expressions supportive of…

Petronio, Richard J. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1982
Tested the degree of association between probation officers' sent and received roles and role behavior in four juvenile courts. Found the role communicated to probation officers by their superiors was predictive of the role the probation officers perceived but not of the role as enacted with juveniles. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Delinquent Rehabilitation, Juvenile Courts, Organizational Climate

McCombs, Dan; And Others – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1978
This investigation reports on follow-up information received from past participants of a school-based social learning program designed for problem adolescents. Data resulting from this pilot study fail to conclusively demonstrate the long-term merits of the behavioral program with this population. (Author)
