A 31-item questionnaire was given to 199 students, 20 of whom were found to have histories of previous suicide attempts. Attempted suicide is considered to be a form of deviant behavior. Multiple suicide attempts are evaluated within the labeling perspective. Specifically, it is determined if labeling theory can explain acts repeated suicide attempts. Labeling by family and friends was found to be significantly related to repeat. (Author)

Most follow-up studies of suicides are made after a relatively short period of time. The present study involved 229 attempted suicides hospitalized during the years 1933-1942. The incidence of suicide long after the original attempt, at least in the case of the women, statistically exceeds the expected incidence. (Author)

Groups of married couples (N=4) were studied using a measure of their marital communication habits and an intensive personal interview. Analysis of the data revealed that the quality of interpersonal communication between spouses significantly deteriorated across the groups as the degree of suicidal behavior increased. (Author)

This study focuses on the relationship of intensity of religious commitment to use of indirect life-threatening behavior among elderly, chronically ill hospital patients.
