Pallak, Suzanne Sogin – 1977
Objective self-awareness theory and stimulus incongruity theory suggest that focusing one's attention on one's behavior in an unfamiliar situation will increase the drive to evaluate oneself, which may be manifested in social comparison. Videotapes of male undergraduates conversing with hand-held puppets were used to study direction of attention…

Broad, James – 1979
Eighteen medically diagnosed hyperactive boys, matched individually for age, sex, teacher defined ability, and school class, took part in a double blind, placebo controlled trial of the effects of Ritalin on social behavior as measured by global rating scales. Lakoff, Robin Tolmach – 1977
This paper is an abstract of the original manuscript, by Nancy Boulton, which examines the area of intersection between purely linguistic and social behavior to see if the latter is amenable to formal description. The paper examines psychoanalytic discourse and presents evidence for the following hypotheses: (1) since participants can recognize…

Boulton, Nancy – 1977
Language has the power to structure and change thought and behavior, where there exists a belief in this positive power of language. Magic is curative because the language of magic has a powerful suggestive effect on the human mind familiar with the context in which this language is used. In psychotherapy, the special terminology is a vital part…

Hawkes, F. J. – 1969
Proceeding on the assumption that humans learn behaviors by imitating the behavior of others, the author is concerned with the appropriate behavioral models needed in dealing with delinquent female adolescents in a group situation. Three potential models are discussed: (1) the group leader or leaders; (2) the group members; and (3) the invited…

Peller, Lili E. – Notes From Workshop Center for Open Education, 1975
This list cannot be used successfully by a poorly prepared teacher. It has the aim of reminding the teacher what to include in her report. It is not a substitute for training, experience, or perceptiveness - it brings the child's behavior into sharper focus. (Author/AM)

In the juvenile institution discussed in this paper, 15 youths are committed to sexual exploitation of weaker inmates. These "booty bandits" are older, black youths from the ghetto who avoid emotional involvement with their victims and merely use them for their own physical release. (Author)

Recent research indicates that early right brain hemisphere specialization for spatial tasks may be due to sex differences. Early specialization has been demonstrated in males asked to perform spatial tasks. An apparently longer period of female brain plasticity may explain why males have a higher incidence of developmental language problems. (MA)

Black first-and second-grade students (N=40) were given instructions intended to induce possessiveness for both a designated toy and a play area.
