Assessed the relative efficacy of EMG biofeedback training to reduce tension levels in students (N=55) characterized by the presence or absence of coronary-prone behavior pattern (Type A or Type B). Results showed biofeedback students attained and maintained greater relaxation during training than did controls, regardless of A/B status. (WAS)

Examined behaviors associated with high-point D scale scores on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for employed males (N=1,829) who completed the test years apart. Ratings of being frequently nervous and a decreased percentage of time sleeping emerged as two stable variables that differed between high D and not high D scores.…

Discusses the difference between those who have been laid off and those who have been permanantly separated from their jobs. Investigated the reliability and validity of Bem and Allen's cross-situational consistency measuring technique. Results showed low reliability for Bem and Allen's test-retest, high reliability for Snyder's Self-Monitoring Scale, and significant correlation between self-reported academic behavior variability and actual grade variability. Identified stable components of Type A behavior and examined their relationships in a study of 69 male college students. Results showed a moderate relationship between ambition, but not adjustment, and a version of the Jenkins Activity Survey. Raised questions about the interpretation of the JAS. (WAS)

Ten older and 10 younger mildly and moderately retarded preschoolers decreased the proportion of time spent in teacher-child interaction and unoccupied/onlooker behavior as a function of increasing age. Reviewed alcohol-related activities by prime-time television characters over a five-year period. Analysis showed alcohol was the preferred beverage used by characters, especially in recent years.
