An intervention program to modify behaviors of a mentally retarded female which interfered with her work production was developed through the systematic collection of performance data on a daily basis. Data thus collected illustrated the student's progress and aided the choice of treatment. (SK)

A program of self-instructional research is presented which incorporates the perspective that developmental theories may be used to understand and design interventions to remediate dysfunctional behavior in children. The study assessed the efficacy of a systematic program of intervention designed to facilitate a goodness of fit between 38 behavior problem secondary level students and a rural school system. The present paper describes an alternate response to the problem of juvenile status offenders (JSO). The intervention is based on a psychological conception of the problem rather than a legal one.
