This instructor's guide for a beef production unit contains five lessons that are designed to be taught in the Agricultural Science I core curriculum. Introductory materials include lists of performance objectives and competencies for the complete unit, suggestions for motivational technique/interest approach and evaluation, lists of references and materials for the unit, and a competency profile. Contents of each lesson include the objective, study questions, reference list, teaching procedures (with a content outline and answers to evaluation), and the evaluation instrument. Some lessons also contain transparency masters, handouts, and/or worksheets. Lesson topics are: selection of breeding stock, breeding and gestation, cow-calf management, backgrounding feeder cattle, and finishing feeder cattle. Instructors are encouraged to adapt these materials to the local area. (YLB)
