Xiaojin Liu; Zhenni Gao; Xinuo Qiao; Xintong He; Wen Liu; Naiyi Wang – Journal of Creative Behavior, 2025
Previous studies tend to focus on two facets of creativity: everyday creativity (little-C) and actual creative achievement (Big-C). While little-C and Big-C both involve divergent thinking (DT), the role of DT in their relationship remains unclear. Here, we assessed the creativity scores of 64 adults, including the Creative Behavior Inventory…

Peña, Javier; Muthalib, Makii; Sampedro, Agurne; Cardoso-Botelho, Mafalda; Zabala, Oihana; Ibarretxe-Bilbao, Naroa; García-Guerrero, Acebo; Zubiaurre-Elorza, Leire; Ojeda, Natalia – Journal of Creative Behavior, 2023
Creativity is a fundamental human accomplishment from scientific advances to composing music. The left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) are important metacontrol hubs in flexibility and persistence brain states, respectively. Those hubs are related to divergent thinking, insight problem-solving, and…

Transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) increases performance in some perceptual tasks. However, little is known about its effect on creativity. Although dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) has been postulated as an important cortical area related to creativity, the relative role of left and right DLPFC is still unclear. We aimed to…

Li, Ying-Han; Tseng, Chao-Yuan; Tsai, Arthur Chih-Hsin; Huang, Andrew Chih-Wei; Lin, Wei-Lun – Creativity Research Journal, 2016
Contemporary understanding of brain functions provides a way to probe into the mystery of creativity. However, the prior evidence regarding the relationship between creativity and brain wave patterns reveals inconsistent conclusions. One possible reason might be that the means of selecting creative individuals in the past has varied in each study.…

Ruggiero, Fabiana; Lavazza, Andrea; Vergari, Maurizio; Priori, Alberto; Ferrucci, Roberta – Creativity Research Journal, 2018
Creativity is the ability to come up with new and original solutions to problems. It is characterized along a dipole spectrum, with the opposing ends defined as convergent and divergent thinking. Previous studies have provided evidence that various cognitive functions and insight into non-verbal problems can be enhanced using non-invasive brain…

Zmigrod, Sharon; Colzato, Lorenza S.; Hommel, Bernhard – Creativity Research Journal, 2015
Creativity has been conceptualized as involving 2 distinct components; divergent thinking, the search for multiple solutions to a single problem, and convergent thinking, the quest for a single solution either through an analytical process or the experience of insight. Studies have demonstrated that these abilities can be improved by cognitive…

Chávez-Eakle, Rosa Aurora; Eakle, A. Jonathan; Cruz-Fuentes, Carlos – Creativity Research Journal, 2012
The aims of this article are to review the multiple relations between creativity and personality, exploring the measurement instruments that have been used to identify them. Specific personality characteristics and traits found in highly creative individuals and the interaction of these traits with the creative process are described. In addition,…

Sahbaz, Namik Kemal; Duran, Gozde – Educational Research and Reviews, 2011
The aim of this research is to search the effect of the cluster method on the creative writing skill of 6th grade students. In this paper, the students of 6-A, studying at Ulas Primary School in 2010-2011 academic year, were divided into two groups as experiment and control. Taking into consideration the various variants, pre-test and last-test…

Al-Sabaty, Ibrahim; Davis, Gary A. – Creativity Research Journal, 1989
This study explored whether the "right thinking style" relates to creativity as measured by 2 types of creativity tests, which were given to 109 undergraduates. Results correlated the How Do You Think scores positively with right thinking scores on the Your Style of Learning and Thinking test and negatively with left thinking scores.…

Harpaz, Itzhak – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1990
A brain laterality test and a creativity test were administered to 119 economics and accounting students and 65 creative arts students. No differences were found between the two types of students in brain dominance or creativity. Students who displayed right hemispheric superiority also excelled on the creativity tests. (JDD)

Meeker, Mary – Gifted Education International, 1988
Giftedness is a multi-dimensional phenomenon, and assessment should be concerned with the kinds of giftedness an individual exhibits. The Structure of Intellect (SOI) tests allow the identification of academic and creative giftedness. The SOI theory can also be used in partnership with brain research to provide a theory-based test of brain…

Kim, Junghee; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
For 92 male and 101 female Korean 11th graders, creativity as measured by the Torrance Tests of Creativity, showed little relationship to school performance. Females tended to be more creative than males, but, irrespective of gender, students with right-brain associated thinking and learning style earned high creativity scores. (SLD)
