Bacha, Fahima
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, New Jersey City University
The implementation of schools that specialize in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is among the strategies that have been adopted by many states in the United States to improve STEM education and to prepare students to pursue postsecondary studies and careers in STEM. The state of New Jersey is committed to providing assistance to enable excellence in STEM education through various initiatives. However, little is known about the implementation of these STEM schools. This study was an investigation of the implementation of three STEM-focused high schools in the state from the supervisors' perspectives. The purpose of this study was to explore best practices in implementing STEM academies, including their successes and their challenges. The results of this study confirmed the variety in implementation of STEM academies and produced a framework to assist school supervisors in the state with implementing STEM academies. Using a common implementation framework can potentially unify the process of implementation of STEM academies and programs, making it easier for school supervisors to undertake initiatives and reforms to advance STEM education in the state and the country.
