The Evolution of School Culture Due to Gun Violence
Munscher, Jessica S.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D.Ed.Lead. Dissertation, University of St. Thomas (Houston)
The purpose of this instrumental case study was to understand how gun violence in schools has influenced school culture for stakeholders within a small suburban school district in southeast Texas. At this stage in the research, school culture is defined as the set of norms, beliefs, values, and assumptions that are shared by the school community (ASCD, 2019). An instrumental case study was conducted to better understand the perceptions of faculty, staff, and administrators. To comprehend how school culture has been influenced by gun violence, the details of past shootings were researched and interviews with faculty, staff, and administrators were conducted. This study described how gun violence has influenced school culture and how school culture in America has evolved over time.
