Estimates of the Population of Counties and Metropolitan Areas: July 1, 1974 and 1975. Current Population Reports, Population Estimates and Projections, Series P-25, No. 709.
Bureau of the Census (DOC), Suitland, MD. Population Div.
This report presents population estimates for July 1, 1974, and provisional estimates for July 1, 1975, for all counties and county equivalents in the United States, by state. Estimates are also shown for standard metropolitan statistical areas, New England county metropolitan areas, and 13 standard consolidated statistical areas. The estimates, representing a compilation of figures published previously in separate reports, were developed jointly by state agencies and the Bureau of the Census. The publication's introduction contains a brief analysis of the findings and a description of methodology used in compiling the estimates. The analysis shows that there is a continuation of large regional shifts in the U.S. population. Migrants are leaving the larger and older urban centers in the Northeast and the North Central regions and are moving to metropolitan areas in the South and West. Approximately 95% of the publication consists of detailed tables. (Author/RM)
