Tong, Xiuhong; Tong, Xiuli; King Yiu, Fung – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2018
Increasing evidence suggests that children with developmental dyslexia exhibit a deficit not only at the segmental level of phonological processing but also, by extension, at the suprasegmental level. However, it remains unclear whether such a suprasegmental phonological processing deficit is due to a difficulty in processing acoustic cues of…

Beattie, Rachel L.; Manis, Franklin R. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2013
Using a non-speech-specific measure of prosody, rise time perception, Goswami and her colleagues have found that individuals with dyslexia perform significantly worse than nonimpaired readers. Studies have also found that children and adults with specific language impairment were impaired on these tasks. Despite the high comorbidity of these…

Bowen, Sara M.; Hynd, George W. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1988
The study examined the developmental lag hypothesis for learning disabilities by evaluating dichotic listening ability using both free recall and directed attention conditions in 24 learning disabled (LD) adults. Findings indicated LD adults showed similar deficits in lateralized selective auditory linguistic processing as children with LD. (DB)

McNutt, James C.; Chia-Yen Li, Janice – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1980
To determine whether the auditory difficulties of learning disabled (LD) children are characterized by deficiencies in processing especially rapid or especially slow speech, the effect of various rates of compressed and expanded sentences on the repetition performance of 20 LD and normal children (ages 8 to 11 years) was investigated. (Author/DLS)

Gomez, Rapson; Condon, Margaret – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1999
A study examined central auditory processing ability of 15 children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), 15 children with ADHD and learning disabilities (LD), and 15 controls. Results indicated lower central-auditory-processing ability and significant correlations between reading and ADHD and reading and…
