This study explored the use of the monographic literature in British and American literary studies and compared its findings with those of studies of humanities journals. It was found that book references were the predominant tool for humanities scholarship and that manuscripts were cited almost as often as journal articles. (EJS)

Examines the scholarly practices of authors of recent monographs in the fine arts as indicated by their citations to source materials. Data are reported on source type, language, publication date, and reason for the citation; and the findings are compared to other citation studies in the fine arts and literary criticism.
