This paper describes a combining arrangement in which language learners work in teams and are forced to communicate with each other to obtain correct information to complete certain work. Active participation helps develop language and communication skills. Several variations on the technique are described. (CHK)

Techniques for the use of the following visual aids are described: hand gestures, drawing diagrams on the blackboard, real objects, magnetic boards and pictures and charts. The aids help to maintain student interest and bridge the gap between drill and communication. (AG)

Suggestions are listed for teacher behavior and classroom rules intended to maintain order and establish good work habits. (RM)

Linguistic theories have a great effect on classroom language teaching methods, and shifts in theory popularity can cause confusion among language teachers. A broad understanding of theory and practice is necessary to provide balance and to select the right teaching method for each occasion. (CHK)
