Cognitive Assessment in Early Childhood for Unilateral Cerebral Palsy
Paulman, Briana E.; Johnson, Wendi L.; Roberts, Heather; Shierk, Angela
Communique, v50 n7 p4, 6, 8 May 2022
This article demonstrates the importance of school psychologists' understanding of which type of cognitive or developmental measure is most appropriate when working with young children with cerebral palsy (CP). Cognitive profiles vary greatly within this population and motor impairments also need to be taken into consideration. School psychologists need to know the various strengths of a particular measure and determine if it is the best fit for the child's level of motor and cognitive functioning. Using two case studies, this article reviews cognitive profiles found among these children and discusses issues related to their assessment.
