Elardo, Richard; And Others – Child Development, 1975
Describes a study involving administration of a home environment inventory to a sample of 77 mothers and infants in order to explore its ability to predict later mental test performance. Correlations between home inventory data and measures of infant development over a period of 30 months were higher than those typically reported. (ED)

Mitchell, David R.; And Others – 1981
An early intervention program for 14 Down's syndrome children (4 to 15 months old) and their parents included individualized guidance for parents in teaching their infant. Home activities centered on tasks to develop attention: cognitive, perceptual, motor, and language skills. Emphasis was placed on a structured teaching approach with…

Fitch, Michael J. – 1978
This correlational study was part of an experimental project study on abused and non-abused children between the ages of two months and six years. Thirty-one children were administered the Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID) and the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA). To determine the extent of MSCA and BSID relationship,…

Kopp, C. B.; And Others – 1975
This paper reports a study which examined the relationships of various facets of sensorimotor performance to abilities measured by a developmental examination of a sample of full-term and pre-term infants nine months after expected term date. This study addressed three questions: (1) Are there differences in the sensorimotor development of term…

Fritz, Janet J.; Suci, George J. – 1977
This study attempted to determine: (1) whether lower-order units (agent or agent-action) within the agent-action-recipient relationship exist in any functional way in the 1-word infant's comprehension of speech; and (2) whether the use of repetition and/or reduced length (common modifications in adult-to-infant speech) used to focus on these…

Rose, Susan Ann – Child Development, 1977
Two studies: (1) assessed the infant's ability to perceive differences between two-dimensional and three-dimensional stimuli; and (2) tested the infants' ability to transfer responses across dimensions. (Author/SB)

Baillargeon, Renee – Developmental Psychology, 1987
Three experiments test object permanenece in 3 1/2- and 4 1/2-month-old infants, and use an impossible-possible-habituation event format. The 4 1/2-month-olds, and the 3 1/2-month-olds who were fast habituators, look reliably longer at the impossible than at the possible event. Results seriously question Piaget's (1954) claims regarding the age at…

Greenberg, David J.; And Others – Child Development, 1973
To demonstrate a relationship between rate of habituation and complexity levels, 11-week-old infants (N=51) were each given a rate-of-habituation and complexity-level test. Rapid habituators looked longer at complex patterns. Irregular habituators responded randomly to tests or resembled slow habituators in terms of complexity preferred. (ST)

Robertson, Steven S.; Suci, George J. – Child Development, 1980
Studies the distribution of attention to actors in a visual event and the influence of linguistic variables on attention. Naming an actor had a strong directing influence on attention in a neutral period and more limited effects on attention during and after the action. (RMH)
