Larson, Caroline; Gangopadhyay, Ishanti; Prescott, Kathryn; Kaushanskaya, Margarita; Ellis Weismer, Susan – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2021
This study examined verbal mediation during planning in school-age children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) relative to age- and nonverbal IQ- matched typically developing peers using a dual-task paradigm. Stillings, Neil A. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
A theory of comprehension in verification tasks is developed from a general conception of language comprehension. Models are developed for a task involving transfer verbs "borrow" and "loan" and the possession verb "have." Models and theoretical framework are superior in some respects to constituent comparison and conversion models. (CHK)

Rubin, David C. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Definitions of four rare words were read to 259 undergraduates who were asked to record letters and syllables of the words, at the tip of the tongue. Results corresponded to an earlier study, with morpheme-like clusters evident. Results indicate an organizing memory system for words used in speech. (CHK)

It also reports new experiments which clarify these issues. A major…

Taft, Marcus; Forster, Kenneth I. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Three experiments are described which support the hypothesis that in a lexical decision task, prefixed works are analyzed into their constituent morphemes before lexical access occurs. Results compare classification times of nonwords that are and are not stems, of free and bound morphemes, and of stems and control items. (CHK)

Macnamara, John – Psychological Review, 1972
Presents evidence to support theory that infants learn their language by first determining, independent of language, the meaning which a speaker intends to convey... and by then working out the relationship between the meaning and the expression they heard. (Author)

Bell, Barbara J.; Torrance, Nancy – 1986
A study examined the ability of 16 children in kindergarten, grade 2, and grade 4 to draw inferences based on the content of a narrative passage and to recognize inferences as derived from, rather than given by, text. An inference task, developed to assess the ability to make and recognize appropriate inferences, consisted of four orally presented…

Morisset, Colleen E.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1995
Used observations and home visits to examine sex differences in language ability of 54 disadvantaged children at risk for poor language outcomes.
