It was hypothesized that Piaget's argument on behalf of the reorganization of cognitive processes would gain empirical support from a color/form, matching similar objects problem for 52 6-year-olds from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. (Author/MS)

Peer reviewedShaw, Marilyn L.; Shaw, Peter – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1977
From experiments showing that subjects differentially attend to parts of the visual field, psychologists have inferred a limitation on human visual information processing capacity. The model presented describes an optimal way to allocate a limited quantity of "cognitive resources", "attention" or "mental effort". An experiment tests this model.…

Peer reviewedHellstrom, Ake – Psychological Bulletin, 1985
In comparative judgments of two stimuli separated by a time interval, there is often a systematic asymmetry (time-order error). From a review of the literature it is concluded that the time-order error should be classified as a perceptual phenomenon that can be predicted with adaptation-level theory and sensation weighting. (Author/CB)

Peer reviewedHaaf, Robert A.; Brown, Cheryl J. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1976
Infants at two age levels were shown six patterns which represented three levels of stimulus complexity and two types of organization, facial and nonfacial. Results agree with previous studies in suggesting a change between ages 10 and 15 weeks in dimensions which underlie infants' response to facelike patterns. (Author/HS)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Developmental Stages, Infant Behavior, Infants
Peer reviewedRothman, Leslie K. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1973
Counselors, psychotherapists, and counselor educators completed a modified repertory test. Contrary to previous findings, presumed positive and negative affect role constructs of significant others did not produce significant differences. The role constructs--boss and person you'd like to help--previously presumed to be negative affect role…
