Day, Mary Carol – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1978

Cox, M. V. – Journal of Educational Research, 1978
Training in perspective-taking skills (the ability to imagine how objects look relative to one another from another person's point of view) resulted in considerable transfer of learning to other tasks and continued subject superiority over controls seven months later, indicating an inter-stage change in cognition. (MJB)

Becker, Curtis A.; Killion, Thomas H. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1977
Meyer, Schvaneveldt, and Ruddy report that semantic context has a larger effect on visually degraded words than on undegraded words. Degrading stimuli takes place by superimposing a dot pattern over letters thereby slowing information processing. Four experiments explore alternative explanations of this research finding. (Editor/RK)

Hoosain, Rumjahn – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1986
With reference to Chinese language and its unique orthography, evidence for language-related differences in manners of information processing is reviewed. These differences include visual form perception, manipulation of numbers, and memory versus manipulation and elaboration of verbal information. (Author/RH)

Kolata, Gina – Science, 1987
Discusses research related to identifying early predictors of school success or intelligence. Reports on a study that suggested correlations exist between how babies process information (visual attentiveness) in the first six months of life and the child's performance on intelligence tests in school. (ML)

McCloskey, Michael; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 1983
Many people erroneously believe that an object carried by another moving object will, if dropped, fall in a straight vertical line. This belief may stem from a perceptual illusion in which objects dropped from a moving carrier are perceived as falling straight down or even backward. (Author/RD)

Day, Robert – Online Submission, 2004
This paper describes a theoretical framework for the investigation of some specific types of visual learning difficulties commonly experienced by biology undergraduates. The framework was developed based on the findings of three simple qualitative pilot studies. A variety of neurological, cognitive and cultural mechanisms can influence what humans…

Begg, Ian – Canadian Journal of Psychology, 1973
Studies support the hypothesis that images aroused by discreet verbal stimuli can be integrated into complex images with the result that: (a) storage capacity requirements are reduced, and (b) recall of one component of the image leads to effective redintegration of the rest. (JB)

Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Communication (Thought Transfer), Descriptive Linguistics, Language Research
Derks, Peter L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
The similarity match took longer than the identity match, and the difference in latency increased as the number of lines in the pattern increased. (Author)
