Ismael Rodriguez Ayala Jr.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Benedictine University
This study explored the experiences of regional admissions counselors related to their recruitment of Black and Hispanic students and how counselors embedded personal experiences in recruitment strategies they used at multiple regional admissions centers of an R1 and primarily White institution (PWI). The research comes at a time when data from the United States Census Bureau indicates that minority students will soon become the majority in the country. The qualitative testimony focused on four Black and Hispanic regional admission counselors and their experiences in utilizing their own experiences to embed recruitment strategies for Black and Hispanic students. Through semi-structured interviews, participants discussed their personal experiences with recruitment, professional experience with recruitment, and use of regional admission centers. The analysis of the data shares participant and researcher experiences in recruitment strategies embedded from their own recruitment and the use of regional admission centers. Findings from this study revealed that Black and Hispanic regional admission counselors embed their own experiences into recruitment strategies for Black and Hispanic students. The participants described the benefits for using a regional admission center to meet the needs of students, families, and communities.
