ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Hampton University
The purpose of this descriptive case study was to examine the characteristics of organizational climate at Mid-Eastern Public University. This study describes a wide variety of organizational climate data measured by the Organizational Climate Questionnaire (OCQ) developed by Furnham and Goodstein (1997). Data-driven findings describe the overall organizational climate of the university as perceived by faculty, staff, and administrators. Consequently, the descriptive case study describes the natural phenomena that occurred within the data in question. Findings indicated that the 228 employee respondents had a high degree of agreement with the 14 OCQ dimensions and importance of each dimension at Mid-Eastern Public University. Standard deviation statistics that measured the dispersion of the dataset relative to its mean indicated scores spread near the mean and low standard deviation. However, when examined by employment classification, the 60 faculty respondents had a high degree of agreement with the 14 dimensions and the importance of each at the institution but designated a Neutral Rating on the OCR Rating Scale for three Agreement Dimensions: Reward System, Relationship, and Commitment and Morale. For the 18 administrators, the mean scores had a high degree of agreement. The less than 1.0 standard deviation statistics suggested a very low variance from the mean for administrator respondents. In regard to staff, the 150 staff respondents showed a high degree of agreement with the dimensions and the importance of each at the institution. Staff did indicate a Neutral Rating on the OCR Rating Scale for the Reward System Agreement Dimension. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
