Franklin, Allan D.; Mohling, Franz – American Journal of Physics, 1974
The second year of operation of a one-year introductory college physics course for educationally disadvantaged students is described. Evaluation of student performance, including comparison with other introductory physics students is reported. Information on course enrollment, staffing, and format is included. (Author/DT)

Kalman, C. S.; And Others – American Journal of Physics, 1974
A project on computer based dialogue for freshmen is described and evaluated. The dialogue utilizes a CAI language written in Fortran that allows a designer to easily write and edit questions at his own desk without the use of a terminal. (Author/DT)
Descriptors: Calculus, College Mathematics, College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction

DeLuca, Frederick P.; Renner, John W. – Journal of College Science Teaching, 1976
Describes an introductory geology laboratory course designed to keep the content and rigor of a traditional course while improving student self-esteem, attitude and achievement. (GS)

Descriptors: College Science, Course Descriptions, Educational Research, Higher Education

Leavers, Donald R. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes a chemistry course for nonscientists in which the content was largely determined by the students. An opinion poll given to the students before and after the course showed a significant improvement in the students' attitude toward science. (MLH)

Silberman, Robert; Parker, Bruce – Journal of Chemical Education, 1974
A study comparing two 40-student sections of general organic chemistry, one taught using the Keller Plan format and the other using a standard lecture method, is reported. Results of a student attitude survey showed students in the Keller Plan had a more positive attitude toward the course. (DT)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Chemistry, College Science, Course Descriptions

Hacket, Dorothy; Holt Imy V. – Science Education, 1973
Describes an audiotutorial program in Biological Science offered to non-science majors at Western Michigan University and reports the results of an evaluative investigation relating to this program. (JR)
Descriptors: Biology, College Science, Course Descriptions, Course Evaluation

Lagendijk, E.; And Others – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Compares two teaching forms of an introductory laboratory course in physics. Concludes that the individualized version is more efficient in learning time and, on the whole, more effective than the traditional version, even though the latter one seems to reinforce student's existing positive attitudes towards physics experimentation. (Author/GA)

Creager, Joan G., Ed. – 1973
A review of some recent educational and research activities is presented in this publication. Major articles compiled in this review include: An Innovative Approach to Laboratory Instruction; An Evaluation of the Mastery Strategy for General Biology Students, Food Science as a General Education Course in Biological Science; The Phase Achievement…

Kramer, David C. – School Science and Mathematics, 1979
Investigates the effect of an activity-oriented biology course on the science attitudes of preservice elementary teachers. Forty-nine students enrolled in this course during the winter and spring quarter of 1977 at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota participated in this study. (HM)

Hawkins, David; And Others – 1982
Presented in this document are essays related to a research project focusing on conceptual obstacles which confine and inhibit scientific understanding (conceptual barriers). These include a short summary of research activities; research methodology; outline of a theory and summary of supporting evidence related to conceptual barriers encountered…
