Item response models (IRMs) were used to analyze Cross Racial Identity Scale (CRIS) scores. Rasch analysis scores were compared with classical test theory (CTT) scores. The partial credit model demonstrated a high goodness of fit and correlations between Rasch and CTT scores ranged from 0.91 to 0.99. CRIS scores are supported by both methods.…

This research evaluated the psychometric adequacy of the Racial Identity Attitude Scale (RAIS). Participants (N=293) included college students and community residents ages 17 to 82 years. Results do not support the psychometric adequacy of the latest version of RAIS. Psychometric issues are discussed; caution is recommended in using RAIS. (EMK)

Investigated content and structure of cultural values for 174 Black students attending a university or community college. Subjects completed the Racial Identity Attitude Scale, Intercultural Values Inventory, and the Personal Data Sheet. Found that the test-retest reliabilities of two measures--(RIAS-B) and (WRIAS)--imply that racial identity may reflect more state characteristics (conditions or events) than trait characteristics (stable). Measures of self-derogation, self-esteem, and ethnic identity were also correlated with the racial identity scales. (RJM)
