O'Shea, Arthur J.; Harrington, Thomas F. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1980
Describes the procedures the authors of the System for Career Decision-Making (CDM) followed in establishing client scoring reliability. Authors recommend that manuals of self-scored inventories provide data establishing scorer reliability, that scoring be supervised, and that APGA test standards deal directly with scorer reliability. (Author)

Osterlund, Blair L.; Cheney, Kenneth – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
This study demonstrates the reliability of holistic reading for student essays. It was found that the Test of Standard Written English correlates to a greater degree with the holistic reading scores than it does with teacher-assigned grades. (Author)

Hix, Judith A.; Hensley, J. Higgins – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
The Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) is supposedly resistant to faking. This assumption was experimentally tested with 156 naive adult college and military participants by manipulating instructional set. Results indicate that participants were able to elevate or depress their scores as directed. (Author)

Bailey, Roger L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test and a new test of reading and writing, the California State University and Colleges English Placement Test, were examined to determine if unique properties for either test could be found. Both tests seem to be measuring the same underlying ability with few unique properties. (Author)

Sawyer, R. N. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1971
This study investigated the reliability and validity of the Philosophical Belief Inventory (PBI). With the exception of the relationship between idealism and pragmatism and realism and existentialism, the PBI scales appear to be assessing independent facets of belief. (Author)

Coscarelli, William C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1983
Discusses Johnson's decision-making theory that information can be gathered in a systematic or spontaneous manner and analyzed either externally or internally. Applies the theory to the helping relationship, assesses the styles of a decision-making inventory, and attempts to determine the reliability and validity of the inventory. (JAC)

Rowe, Wayne – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1973
A group of 44 undergraduates was administered the Personal Orientation Inventory under different instructions to fake good'' toward two expectations. Results indicated that scores were significantly affected in the hypothesized directions. Earlier findings about the effect of dissimulation on PO1 scores were equivocal and conclusions expressed…

Tracey, Terence J.; Sedlacek, William E. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1984
Examined the reliability, construct validity, and predictive validity of the Non-Cognitive Questionnaire (NCQ) for different racial groups, using a sample of 1,975 Black and White college students. Results showed the NCQ significantly predicted persistence for Black students and predicted grades for both groups. (JAC)

Moore, Thomas L.; McLean, James E. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
Based upon the item analysis, reliability, and factorial validity results of this study, there is reason to question the applicability of the Career Maturity Inventory (CMI) Attitude Scale to a college population. In particular, students with self-expressed and measured levels of vocational maturity significantly differ from the norming…
